Ashling Murphy’s family have gone to the scene of her murder in an emotional visit.

The 23-year-old teacher was killed while she was out running by the canal on Wednesday.  Her family visited the location and crossed the crime scene tape to visit the spot where she lost her life.   They stayed there together for a few minutes before going back to their vehicles.

As part of their ongoing investigation, Gardai are waiting to question a man who is currently in hospital, receiving treatment.  He is believed to have sustained self-inflicted knife wounds and is expected to survive after being treated by emergency services.  He presented himself to A&E.

Gardai were contacted when staff alerted them to the fact that the man was injured and that he had come a long way from Tullamore, where the murder occurred.

The man is currently being watched by Gardai while they wait for him to recover enough to be able for questioning.
