Ireland’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Tony Holohan said:
“These weeks are just as important as the first number of weeks of our response. We need to keep the reproduction number to under 1.”

The numbers of cases on average are now falling over the past week with 137 new cases announced on Thursday.

The chief medical officer said that this is good news and that we have achieved our goal of getting the reproduction number below 1 and that Ireland’s collective effort has saved lives.
