HSE slammed once again as latest report finds that over 2,000 young people are left waiting for a mental health assessment




The HSE has yet again come in for further criticism after a latest report has found that 2,520 children and young people were left waiting for an mental health assessment in February this year.

The report which was published this week found that of the 2,520 people left waiting over half on the list were left to wait over a year to get seen by a top level psychiatrist.

Speaking about the latest findings the country’s leading children’s advocacy group Barnardos have slammed the lack in service for society’s most vulnerable people.

A spokesperson for the group has said the unacceptable delays are having “long-term unnecessary consequences” on vulnerable children.

This the latest incident in the long running issue of mental health issues affecting the country has placed further questions on the Department​ of Health and the Government given the recent cuts to the mental health budget.
