“I’ll come and go as I please” – Backlash to Varadkar’s statements on people possibly not travelling home for Christmas

Social media users have lashed out at Leo Varadkar over his comments that people may not be able to travel home for Christmas, as normal, due to the pandemic. Many Irish people living abroad have been commenting that they’re going to travel home regardless of what Varadkar says, especially considering how many foreign people a travelling into Ireland on a daily basis.

There’s been absolute uproar on social media after the Tanaiste made some very colourful comments about whether people will be able to travel home for Christmas or not.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year – if you can return to Ireland that is.

According to the Tanaiste Leo Varadkar, people shouldn’t book any flights home at the moment due to the international risk of the pandemic still playing its role.

Varadkar joined the Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan who just last week said that there was absolutely no way in which he could offer advice to people on whether they could travel home to Ireland  or not to Ireland for Christmas at this stage.

There has already been much consternation on social media as a result of the controversial remarks.
