Liam Payne, a musician and former member of One Direction, died after falling from a balcony, and his death is being investigated by Argentine police, reports RTE.
According to a police source who spoke to AFP, the 31-year-old singer “died from the fall” and had “internal and external bleeding” after a preliminary autopsy.
According to Reuters, when authorities searched the star’s room following his death, they discovered it in “total disorder,” with several items smashed and prescription drugs strewn all over the place, reports RTE.
According to a police statement, they discovered a mobile phone, a lighter, and a bottle of whisky in the hotel atrium where Payne had fallen. They claimed to have obtained those people’s fingerprints.
Concerns over a hotel guest’s conduct prompted police to be summoned to the Casa Sur Hotel Friday evening.
A hotel employee is heard in a 911 call to the police stating that there was “a guest who is intoxicated by drugs and alcohol” and that he was “breaking the whole room” on audio that Reuters was able to get from the Buenos Aires Security Ministry, reports RTE.
Prior to medical professionals confirming his death, local police said that the singer had fallen from the third story onto the hotel courtyard in the Palermo area of Argentina’s capital.
Following police cordoning off the area and the entry and departure of forensic investigators wearing blue gloves and white protective suits, photos showed stunned fans assembling outside the hotel.
As they honoured the adored musician who became well-known after being found on X Factor, people were seen burning candles and decorating the roadside with flowers, reports RTE.
Two weeks ago, Payne and his girlfriend Kate Cassidy were spotted dancing at his ex-bandmate’s performance at the Movistar Arena while he was in Buenos Aires for a Niall Horan gig.
After Payne and Horan joined Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, and Payne on The X Factor in 2010, One Direction became a worldwide success. With successes like “What Makes You Beautiful” and “Story of My Life,” their albums and tours broke records and catapulted them to prominence. The group received several accolades and sold more than 70 million albums globally, reports RTE.
