Bring me no more reports, Macbeth says in Act 5 of the timeless piece. Let them fly all.

Still, the Government is awaiting on yet another report to see if they are given the moral justification for re-introducing water charges.

An independent commission setup on foot of the water charges debacle has been hard at work for the last few months, and will present its findings next week to an Oireachtas committee made up of five Government TDs, four Fianna Fail TDs, two Sinn Fein TDs, and five members of independent alliances.

Water charges were suspended after a firestorm of protests against them. The water issue became ultimately responsible for the fall of Fine Gael and Labour at the last election, though the former managed to weasel their way back in at the expense of the latter.

Ireland awaits with bated breath the outcome of this report, while in the background, knives and daggers are sharpened in case the Government dares to raise the prospect of bringing charges back.
