Irish weather could see very hot conditions with thunderstorms forecast

Many parts of Ireland are waking up after weeks of sun and sweltering temperatures to gray skies and rain, reports The Mirror.

The good news is that the heat is not abating as temperatures are expected to stay above 20°C for much of the coming week, but blue skies are becoming rarer.

Thunderstorms are also forecast in the coming days as it will be stuffy and torrential rains across the country, reports The Mirror.

More than 13mm of rain fell in Cork and Limerick as early as Saturday morning, although some areas were spared the worst of this weekend’s rain.

The Met Eireann forecast suggests most of the country will have to forego the unusual combination of shorts and umbrellas as it is expected to stay extremely wet, but the risk of rain also persists throughout the weekend and thunderstorms are possible early next week.

Of Saturday, a Met Eireann spokesperson said: “Today will be warm and humid. Rather cloudy with some spells of hazy sunshine. Scattered showers today, mainly in the south and west this morning, will later spread to other parts. Some showers will be heavy or possibly thundery with the chance of spot flooding. Highest temperatures of 19 to 24 degrees, in a light to moderate southeasterly breeze,” reports The Mirror.

“Very mild and muggy tonight. A few showers will continue overnight, heaviest in the north or west with possible thundery downpours. Many places will be dry with a mix of cloud and clear spells at first, before some mist and fog forms overnight. Temperatures will not fall below 13 to 16 degrees, with light southeasterly winds,” they added, reports The Mirror.
