The Italian Deputy Prime Minister, Matteo Salvini, has condemned the EU and stated that the “filthy” Brussels run bloc had abandoned his country when it needed support regarding the dispute over a migrant rescue ships docking in the country’s ports, the UK Express reports.
Salvini went on to call for Italy to cut its annual funds to the EU after Brussels failed to act in a timely manner to resolve the standoff in which the country barred a migrant rescue boat from docking in Sicily until there are guarantees that other EU members would take a portion of the asylum seekers.
So far Ireland is the only EU state that has agreed to take in a number of the migrants from the ship. The government has pledged to give asylum to up 25 of the migrants from the rescue ship the Diciotti, the Irish Times reports.
