“It’s not fair, my health comes first” – mixed reactions to possibly losing €350 payment if you’refuse’ to go back to work

There’s been very mixed reactions to the government holding the possible threat that the €350 covid payment may be stopped if you refuse to go back to work.

People are saying that their job or indeed the payment aren’t worth putting their health at risk while others say that we need to get the economy back up and running.

If you’re getting used to the lockdown payment, you better be willing to go back to work if the opportunity arises.

Caretaker Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said that workers might lose their Covid-19 emergency payment if they ‘refuse’ to go back to their jobs, if these are still available post-pandemic.

The payment, currently worth €350 a week, is being paid to almost 600,000 people across Ireland.

Mr. Varadkar recently said that while the payment period might be extended beyond its original June deadline, ‘it cannot last forever.’

This attitude contrasts starkly to that of ministers’ payments, which will not be cut during the pandemic under any circumstances, according to Minister for Finance Paschal Donoghue.
