There’s been a mixed reaction to one Dublin man who has left the Emerald Isle and head towards the Ukraine to fight against Russia.

Some social media users have claimed that it’s not our war and that we should stay completely neutral while others say that he was right to go.

Rhys Byrne, 27 who is from Santry in Dublin, is one of around 20,000 people who have so far enlisted in the International Legion of Territorial Defence of Ukraine to fend off invading Russian forces.

It’s understood the Dubliner has a number of years experience in hand-to-hand combat but that he expressed fear of what lies ahead. He empathised with children caught up in the conflict but said that he was a proud Irishman and that he would like to see other Irishmen join him in the fight out in the Ukraine.
