A judge has overturned the long-standing automatic assault weapons ban in California.
The ban, which was put in place in 1989, has now been deemed ‘unconstitutional.’
In his ruling, federal Judge Roger T. Benitez said that “Guns and ammunition in the hands of criminals, tyrants, and terrorists are dangerous; guns in the hands of law-abiding responsible citizens are better.’
California’s Governor Gavin Newsom said that the ruling is a ‘direct threat to public safety.’
