Kildare hotel to be the first shelter in Ireland for 500 refugees

frances
Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald has confirmed today that the Hazel Hotel in Kildare will become the first, temporary home for a number of incoming refugees.

The hotel, located in Monasterevin, has been assigned as “orientation” centre. 520 refugees will be accommodated there until the end of 2016, before being moved to other parts of the country.

The plan is that, as one group leaves the hotel, another one arrives. They will be provided with medical care if neeeded, and children will be prepared to enter the Irish education centre.

According to a spokesperson, “Ireland would not be found wanting” on the issue of refugees.
