The Labour party is well and truly on the fast lane to extinction.

Three new polls have shown that popular support for the ailing political organization is on a virtually irrecoverable tail spin, about to achieve terminal velocity.

Some polls give the party a 5% popularity rating, others a 6%. Joan Burton and co. will soon stare down the barrel of oblivion.

Independents have fared much better. They are still the most popular candidates, standing heads and shoulders above the rest, at 30%.

Sinn Féin climbs up in two polls and down in the other. Depending which poll you believe, they have a support base of between 21%-24%.

Fianna Fáil remains largely steady at either 18% or 19%, depending on the poll.
