Lidl issues an urgent ‘do not eat’ warning for popular chicken product after it’s recalled over health fears

Lidl has issued a customer alert after announcing an urgent recall of a popular chicken product sold in its Irish outlets, citing potential health risks, reports The Mirror.

The recall applies to the 380g packs of Red Hen 4 Tempura Chicken Steaks, which Lidl pulled from shelves this week due to the presence of milk that was not clearly highlighted on the label.

Although milk was included in the ingredient list, it was not marked in bold text. As a result, the product is considered hazardous for individuals who are allergic to or intolerant of milk, reports The Mirror.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) stated: “Milk is not emphasised in the ingredients list of the above batches of Red Hen Tempura 4 Chicken Steaks.

“This may make the batches unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of milk and therefore, these consumers should not eat the implicated batches. The affected batches are being recalled from Lidl stores,” reports The Mirror.

The recall affects batches of the Red Hen Tempura Chicken Steaks four-pack (380g) with Best Before dates of: 11/12/2026, 16/12/2026, 22/12/2026, and 30/12/2026.

Lidl has issued an apology for the inconvenience caused and urged anyone with a milk allergy or intolerance to avoid consuming the product. They advised affected customers to return it to the store for a full refund, reports The Mirror.

“Lidl is recalling the above Tempura 4 Chicken Steaks with the Best Before Dates listed above due to the allergen Milk not being declared in bold in the ingredients list,” a spokesperson for the supermarket giant said in a statement. “Lidl Customer Services: 01 920 3010 (Republic of Ireland) | 0289 568 4888 (Northern Ireland),” reports The Mirror.

In addition, the retailer has posted notices at points of sale and contacted relevant allergy support groups to notify their members about the product recall.
