In what has been described as a major blow for Pornhub, an adult video website, it has been forced to remove the bulk of the videos by suspending all unverified uploads due to a dispute over illegal content.
Mastercard, one of the world’s largest payment providers, withdrew its support for the website last week in the wake of the scandal. A New York Times report accused the website of being “infested” with sick videos of rape-related and child-abuse related content.
According to Pornhub, the new measures are now stricter than any other social media platform. The move means that the only videos that will remain online have been uploaded by verified content partners and people in the videos who are members of a so-called “model programme”.
Most of the content on the website was uploaded by unverified community members which means that millions of videos have been deleted due to the new policy.
