A man was remanded in continued custody today on charges related to the death of Marguerita “Maggie” O’Rourke (née Sheridan), a mother of one, reports The Mirror.

Danny O’Donoghue, 42, of Lower Main Street Rathkeale, County Limerick, is accused of driving dangerously on December 21st, which resulted in Ms. O’Rourke’s death.

Last Saturday, December 21, at around 12:15 p.m., a vehicle struck gates at Bank Place, Well Lane, Rathkeale, critically injuring and killing Ms. O’Rourke, 21, of Roches Row, Rathkeale, reports The Mirror.

In addition, Mr. O’Donoghue is charged with criminally damaging a set of gates, threatening to kill or seriously injure Patrick Sheridan, displaying a machete while making the alleged threat, and criminally damaging Mr. Sheridan’s van on December 21st of last year, all at Rathkeale.

Via video link from Limerick Prison, where he is being held on remand, Mr. O’Donoghue came before a holiday sitting of the Limerick District Court today. He was asked to verify his identity and that he could see and hear the court proceedings, reports The Mirror.

Bringing charges against the Garda Gardaí were awaiting more instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), according to Sergeant Sean Murray of the Roxboro Road Garda Station.

The accused was agreeing to the State’s request for a four-week detention in jail, according to solicitor John Herbert. In response to the State’s motion, Judge Adrian Harris remanded Mr. O’Donoghue in continuous custody with instructions from the DPP to appear before Limerick District Court on January 21, reports The Mirror.

Nearly four weeks ago, Ms. O’Rourke, her husband Denis, and their family celebrated the arrival of Edward, the couple’s first child. On Christmas Eve, many hundred people gathered in Rathkeale for a candlelight memorial in memory of the deceased. The remains of Ms. O’Rourke will be interred tomorrow, Saturday, December 28th, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Cross’s Funeral Home, Gerald Griffin Street, Limerick City.

On Sunday, December 29, at 12.30 p.m., her funeral will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Rathkeale. She will thereafter be buried at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Rathkeale. The victim’s father, John Sheridan, praised his daughter, calling her “a true legend” who had a passion for “horses.”

The deceased’s brother Freddy Sheridan posted a tribute online and wrote: “My first Christmas without you and it is one billion percent not the same, Marguerita, and it’s never going to be the same without you, not just at Christmas, my life will never be the same Maggie, but you left us a very special boy, I know he’s mama should be here with him but unfortunately life didn’t go that way,” reports The Mirror.

“Marguerita, I can make a book with all the memories we have but I just don’t have the strength, my life will never be the same, it took me five days to say this, Rest in Peace Marguerita, I can’t believe I had to say it, love you my sister,” reports The Mirror.
