A man has passed away in hospital following an incident in which he was reportedly pushed by a Garda officer in the centre of Dublin, reports The Mirror.
The 51-yr-old died at Dublin’s Mater Hospital on Monday evening after an alleged confrontation that took place on O’Connell Street during the early hours of last Friday.
The incident is said to have occurred outside the Holiday Inn on Dublin’s main thoroughfare and involved a currently serving member of An Garda Síochána, reports The Mirror.
It is alleged that the Garda pushed the man, and the Garda Ombudsman – now operating under the name ‘Fiosrú’ – has launched an investigation into the matter.
The man, a Dublin resident, sustained head injuries during the incident and was taken to hospital where he remained in a critical condition until his death. Fiosrú is now seeking witnesses who may have been near the Holiday Inn at approximately 4.15am to come forward, reports The Mirror.
“Anyone with information which may be of assistance to this independent investigation is asked to contact Fiosrú at 0818 600 800 or [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]),” the Ombudsman’s office said.
Meanwhile, the Garda Press Office has directed all media enquiries about the case to Fiosrú, reports The Mirror.
