The Taoiseach described the Russian nuclear attack drill that destroyed Ireland and Britain as “very sinister, intimidatory-type tactics by the Russian Federation”, reports RTE.

This follows a TV report aired in Russia over the weekend which showed simulated footage of Ireland being destroyed in the event of a Russian attack on Britain.

Dmitry Kiselyov has been described as a powerful pro-Putin propagandist and over the weekend he lived up to it.

On the show, the presenter discussed a hypothetical Russian attack on Britain. Speaking in a studio accompanied by animations, he said: “A thermonuclear torpedo explosion off the coast of Britain will trigger a gigantic tsunami wave that can reach 500m in height. Just one barrage carries extreme doses of radiation.

“Having passed over the British Isles it will turn what might be left of them into a radioactive desert unfit for anything for a long time.”

He doesn’t mention Ireland by name, but it’s clear that Ireland is part of the collateral damage, as TV graphics show Ireland being wiped out.
