The Minister for Education Norma Foley has said that Covid-19 outbreaks in schools remain at a very low level.
Speaking before an Oireachtas Committee this afternoon the Education Minister said outbreaks in schools were much lower than the wider community.
Foley told the committee that data from the chair of the Irish Epidemiological Modelling Advisory Group Professor Philip Nolan suggests that outbreaks amongst schools is at 2.4%, whilst outbreaks amongst the wider community is currently at 10%.
The Education Minister told the committee that a number of mitigation measures had been put in place in schools and the data shows that there has been a lot of work done in abiding by the rules both by staff and students.
She added that she was confident that schools could continue to remain open after the Easter break.
