This may well be one of the last times Minister for Sport Shane Ross has laughed in quite some time.

The 67-yr-old relatively new Sport Minister is said to have practically had a panic attack in Rio when the revelation that Pat Hickey is allegedly caught up in the whole ticket-touting fiasco came out.

Insiders claim Ross frantically rang home and rang “many members of the government’s front bench” in a desperate effort to find out what he should do.

Perhaps inexperience, perhaps lack of decision and direction, but Ross is said to have literally not had an idea as to what he could do that could prevent further disaster for the murky white collar Irish Olympic experience.

He boarded the first flight home and is said to have raced to the Attorney General.

Sources close to the Independence Alliance TD have claimed “Shane has had only sleepless nights since the whole ordeal erupted. He is shattered and is walking around in a state of panic”.
