Minority Government teeters on the brink of existence, as one Independent removes his support

The survival of the current minority Government is this afternoon dancing on thin ice, as one key Independent TD has pulled the plug on his support for Enda Kenny.

Michael Harty, a TD for Co. Clare, says that after offering his support for Enda Kenny, he was overlooked and failed to obtained any Cabinet position.

As a result, he is no longer supporting Mr. Kenny, who is now left in a very precarious position indeed.

Mr. Harty said “I have voted to allow a minority Government to be formed. I’m not part of that Government. I haven’t been offered any position, and as such I remain an Independent TD,”

“If I was offered a position I would think about it, but I wasn’t offered one.”

If Kenny loses the support of one more TD, the precariously balanced minority setup would immediately collapse.
