The LoveBoth campaign has welcomed the news this evening that Minister Harris is “willing to participate” in a head-to-head debate on his abortion proposal.
The Minister’s spokesperson made the commitment to RTE News following a press conference this afternoon when he was challenged to a debate with a spokesperson from the organisation.
Commenting earlier, LoveBoth spokesperson Geraldine Martin said:
“Minister Harris has spent a lot of time criticising the 8th Amendment and those who want to see it remain in the Constitution. His proposal however, would introduce abortion on demand up to 3 months and after that in vague, undefined circumstances.
“The public are entitled to hear a full debate between the Minister, who wants to remove the right to life from the Constitution, and a spokesperson from LoveBoth, which has been working to highlight the need for legal protection and supports for families for over 30 years.”
“It is good that the Minister has accepted the need for this debate at this crucial time. With just 30 days to go until the country goes to the polls, it is now up to him to follow through on his commitment and name the time and place at which this debate can happen.”
