No fewer than 100 properties have been destroyed, and around 5,000 people evacuated following the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the island of La Palma.

The volcanic event commenced on Sunday afternoon, prompting four nearby villages to be evacuated.

A number of flights to and from the island have been canceled so far.
