An Ohio mother has been sentenced to 37-years in prison for murdering her three sons after she claimed she feared they may grow up to abuse women.
The Daily Mail reports that Brittany Renee Pilkington (27) pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter and murder last Tuesday which meant she would be spared being put to death.
Pilkington’s husband, Joseph Pilkington (47) also pled guilty to a misdemeanour charge of sexual imposition for having sex with Mrs Pilkington before they were married, when she was underage.
As part of Mrs Pilkington’s defence, she told how she began a relationship with Joseph Pilkington when she was a teenager and became pregnant at 17, later marrying him and giving birth to two more sons. This experience, she claims, led her to fear that her sons would grow up to abuse women.
Pilkington murdered her sons between July 2014 and August 2015, with her infant son Niall being killed first then four-year-old son, Gavin, in April 2015 and finally four-month-old, Noah, was murdered at the hands of his mother in August 2015.
Police taped confession by Pilkington in which she said that at the time she murdered her sons she was depressed and worried her sons would eventually become abusive toward women.
