One former British paratrooper involved in the Bloody Sunday massacre will be charged with multiple counts of murder and attempted murder

One former British paratrooper, identified only as ‘Soldier F’, is set to be charged with multiple counts of murder and attempted murder for his role in the Bloody Sunday massacre.

The events of January 30, 1972 in Derry, Northern Ireland, led to the deaths of 14 civilians after British paratroopers used live ammunition to disperse crowds marching against internment.

Soldier F is to face prosecution for the murders of James Wray and William McKinney and the attempted murders of Joseph Friel, Michael Quinn, Joe Mahon and Patrick O’Donnell.

Sixteen other former soldiers who were present during the Bloody Sunday incident will not face charges, as prosecutors considered that there is ‘insufficient’ evidence against them.
