A man in his 50s has been arrested after an inmate was found dead inside his cell at Cloverhill Prison on Saturday.
It is understood that the two men were involved in an altercation shortly before the victim was found dead.
The deceased, named as Mark Lawlor, had been in prison less than a week at the time of the incident.
Gardai are now conducting a murder investigation.
