Met Eireann has issued an urgent Orange Warning -the second highest- ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Lorenzo.
The storm carries savage winds and torrential rain, along with thunder and lighting so widespread power cuts and destruction are likely.
The warning covers Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork, Kerry, and Limerick. Damage to these counties is potentially catastrophic.
