Organ donation laws could soon be changed after new legislation focusing on an opt out system has been published.
Under the new system which has yet to be passed in the Dáil, those who wish not to donate their organs will have to opt out rather than opt in before they pass away.
It is believed new Human Tissue Bill, which has been heavily backed by the Minister for Health Simon Harris is being introduced in an effort to increase organ transplant procedures.
According to Minister Harris the new donation system will change how organ transplants are carried out in the future.
It is understood that people who pass away will automatically give consent for their organs including their heart, kidneys, liver, and lungs to be donated.
It is expected that the new legislation will go before the Dail in the coming weeks in hope that it is passed.
