Pears are nice little fruits all around; they are healthy, taste good, relieve constipation, and, if a team of scientists in Australia is to be believed, the juice from this goodness-filled fruits may spare you from the dreaded Sunday morning hangover.
For you see, pear juice has been found to reduce the blood levels of the toxic metabolic that causes hangover symptoms, acetaldehyde. Korean pears in fact are particularly effective at acting on key enzymes that are involved in metabolizing alcohol, alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) and aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH). The juice from these pears speeds up the metabolism of alcohol present in the blood and inhibits its absorption.
A recently carried study showed that the severity of the hangover was significantly lower on those subjects who drank the pear juice, when compared to those who drank a placebo drink.
However, it was pointed out that the pear juice would only be effective if taken before consuming alcohol, so you need to bear that in mind.
