Poland has again rejected demands from the EU that member states take part in the bloc’s migrant distribution programme.

Polish ambassador Anna Maria Anders to Italy, Anna Maria Anders, has re-emphasized the Warsaw government’s long held stance that the country will only accept migrants who hare linguistic and cultural traditions with the Polish people, Italian newspaper Il Giornale reports.

Ambassador Anders stated during the interview

“The EU wants redistribution, but we do not change our point of view. Warsaw is already doing so much. In Poland, there are two million Ukrainians, many of whom have fled from war zones. They integrate well, share in part our language, traditions, and culture,”

The EU’s migrant distribution agreement, known as the Malta agreement, would see countries take newly arrived migrants from hotspots such as Italy and Greece within four weeks of their arrival.
