Police foil attack of teenager planning to carry out mass-shooting in secondary school

A New Zealander teenager with a military-style semiautomatic rifle, a shotgun, and homemade bombs was captured with the intention of carrying out a mass-shooting at his school.

The self-proclaimed terrorist told his classmates about blowing up a packed assembly hall and then shooting people.

The teenager had devised attack plans, tested explosives and had access to an AR-15 rifle, the same type of semi-automatic firearm used by the Australian gunman who killed 51 people at two mosques during the Christchurch terror attack.

In 2018, following concerns from students and parents, police found three bombs, CO2 cans filled with gunpowder and a match, hidden in his bedroom. Bomb disposal teams were called in to secure the devices and found they could have caused an explosion that would cause serious damage.

The story has just come to light in New Zealand after being prevented for some time due to the boy’s age.
