The accommodation of International Protection Applicants in a former Capuchin Friary and St. Brigid’s maternity hospital in Carlow town is the subject of a protest march scheduled for this Saturday.
According to Breaking News, twelve days ago, fourteen individuals under garda escort moved into the former friary, despite continuous protests outside both of the buildings on Dublin Street against the reception of asylum seekers.
Whereas St. Brigid’s can hold up to 100 people, the friary will only hold 50, reports Breaking News.
The third week of the 24-hour protests is underway, and Carlow Says No, the organisers, have scheduled the march for 1 p.m. at the Liberty Tree in the town centre.
A spokesperson for the organisation said: “To date, Carlow Says No has maintained an extremely high standard of orderliness and discipline. This is thanks largely due to the quality of the people who have attended and maintained the protest,” reports Breaking News.
