Refund request: Former Console CEO Paul Kelly ordered to repay €150k state grant

The former CEO of the disgraced suicide prevention charity Console Paul Kelly and his wife Patrica have been ordered to repay an €150,000 grant they received whilst Mr Kelly was in charge of the charity organisation.

According to reports the pair have received numerous letters from The Department of Foreign Affairs which requests the repayment of the money they received between 2013 and 2015.

The former CEO Kelly was ousted from the charity last year after it went bust after it racked up a debt of €300,000 despite his continuous lavish spending of funds.

In a brief statement about the recalling of funds a Department spokesperson said: “The Department confirms that following the conclusion of an audit by the Department’s Evaluation and Audit Unit, repayment of these grants was requested.”

“There is an investigation ongoing by the Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement into issues surrounding the liquidation of Console, and as such there will be no further comment from the Department on this matter.”
