Robin Thickes rendition of Blurred lines has been named as the most downloaded song in the UK of all time. It beat out UK artist adele for the top spot earlier this week.

The Official Charts Company’s new countdown announced how the record had sold a whopping 1.54 copies since its release in May of last year. Beforehand “Someone Like You” had been the most downloaded song with 1.53 copies sold to date.

Other artists that made the top 5 included Maroon 5, The Black Eyed Peas and Gotye.

Chuffed with the announcement Thicke stated how ‘blurred lines’ had been a ‘dream come true’.

However success has not always been smooth sailing for the R&B artist. Blurred lines has sparked controversy among feminists since its release due to risque lyrics like the catchy “I know you want it”.

A spokesperson for the Rape crisis centre said “Certain lyrics are explicitly sexually violent and appear to reinforce victim-blaming rape myths”.

In an interview with GQ magazine, Thicke also spoke of how it had been ‘a pleasure to degrade a woman’ because he had “never gotten to do that before”

And not long after, there was the controversial performance of the song at the VMA’S which involve Miley Cyrus’ twerking incident and an unfortunate foam finger.

In response to the Blurred lines feminist controversy, Thicke had argued that he was a “Happily married man”.

Unfortunately, the ‘Happy marriage’ between Thicke and Paula Patton broke up after nine years last february. Despite the couples insistence that it was a mutual separation, allegedly the break up stemmed from infidelity and incriminating photos of Thicke with different women.

US weekly also reported how “Robin wanted to save their marriage, but it was Paula’s choice and she ended it, Robin does not want this divorce.”

Thicke also declared his love for Patton at a series of American concerts following the separation “For y’all that don’t know — me and my wife separated,” he said. “But I’m trying to get my girl back. She’s a good woman.”
