Moscow is demanding an official explanation after Swiss fighter planes shadowed a civilian Russian aircraft carrying journalists to a conference in Peru.
Three F/A-18 fighter jets were scrambled and escorted the Russian aircraft until it left Swiss airspace.
The incident has once again highlighted the heightened state of tensions between western powers and Moscow, on foot of the Russian open collaboration with the Syrian Government and other issues.
The Russian Navy flagship, the carrier Admiral Kuznetsov is currently on station in the Mediterranean Sea, conducting aerial bombardment operations against targets in Aleppo, for instance.
