Ryan says new Climate Bill will change our country and will make for a better Ireland

The Green party leader Eamon Ryan has said that Ireland’s new Climate Bill will change our country and it will put us in a better place.

Speaking this afternoon, Minister Ryan said that the new Bill which aims to have Ireland carbon neutral by 2050 will make our country a better place and it will show the world that Ireland is serious about climate action.

Under the new Bill the Government are planning to introduce a number of measures that will cut Ireland’s emissions rate of 2018 by 51% over the next ten years.

Ryan said that the next two Budgets will introduce a number of measures under the plan.

There will also be five carbon budgets each year with the main targets on reducing emissions in areas such as transport and industry.

However the carbon budgets will have a ceiling in place for greenhouse gas emissions.

It is also expected that the plan will focus on renewable energy, whilst local councils will be required to outline plans to cut emissions.

Ryan stated that the overall plan will make Ireland a green island and it will be green in practice as well as in word.
