Up to 560 teachers who were supposed to be retired were found to be employed across nationwide during the last academic year.
These figures are actually up from the previous year, even though recommendations from the Department of Education specify that newly qualified teachers must be prioritised.
The practice, questionable at best, has been blamed for hogging valuable teaching positions and thus preventing new graduates to access gainful employment.
