Second election expected to be called this week, as talks between parties end without agreement

A second general election is now almost a certainty, as Irish Water and water charges become the one insurmountable stumbling block to form a government.

It is understood that talks collapsed yesterday, with senior sources conceding that the ongoing meetings are ‘going nowhere.’

Acting Taoiseach Enda Kenny, likely duty-bound by vested interests on privatising Irish Water in the near future, will not concede on its abolition. Fianna Fail remain steadfast on suspending water charges and doing away with Irish Water.

Fine Gael is now said to be on an election footing once again, after the formation of a new government remains an elusive mirage.
