The chances of a second election round are increasing by the day, as it has now emerged that Labour and Independents are likely to abstain from voting on the election of a new Taoiseach on Thursday.

According to sources, the political deadlock will continue, with no solution in sight.

Independents have said that they would like to “see the colour of the money” of what a possible deal between the major parties would look like, before voting for either one of them.

A meeting between Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil representatives will take place this evening.
