Sharks have killed 9 people this year, the highest level in years

Sharks have killed nine people in 60 reported attacks this year, the highest number since 2013.

Scientists blame the spike in attacks and fatalities on weather factors, people having more ‘Staycations’ due to the pandemic, and changing marine hunting grounds due to overfishing according to the Sun.

Eight men and one woman have lost their lives in shark attacks, aged from as young as 17 all the way to 63 years of age. Seven of the victims died in Australia, with two others in Maine and California in the US respectively.

Earlier in October 17 beaches in New South Wales were forced to close due to an extreme spike in shark sightings.
