A new 50 euro note will hit the streets across Ireland and the rest of the EU from today.
The note is similar in size to the current note, but includes new security features to make counterfeiting more difficult.
The newly designed note will also feel ‘crisper’ and ‘firmer’, according to currency experts, and include raised print, a portrait window, a portrait watermark, and security thread.
One particularly striking visual feature is the emerald number displays, as they feature a light effect that moves up and down when the note is tilted.
The new note is part of the upcoming ‘Europa’ series, displaying diverse architectural styles from across the continent. New 100 and 200 euro denominations will also be in circulation soon.
