Police in India have launched two separate investigations after two young girls were brutally gang raped and killed in a matter of days.
According to state media the investigations come after the two girls both aged 12 and 15 were found dead by authorities.
In what can only be described as a sickening attack one of the girls suffered a ruptured liver and lung after she was raped by at least four men in the Kurukshetra region of Haryana.
Local authorities say they are working under the suspicion that the 15-year-old girl whose body was discovered in a stream, recieved the severe injures after the men used a blunt object during the attack which ultimately resulted in her death.
Police say a massive manhunt to find the perpetrators of the horrific attack is underway.
Meanwhile a 12-year-old girl was also sadly found dead in Panipat after two men brutally raped her before dumping her body in a nearby pond.
Police authorities in Panipat say the two men who were neighbours of the girl confessed to luring the girl away from her home and raping her before they killed her and disposed of her body.
Authorities say both men have since been charged with kidnapping, rape and murder.
The horrific crimes have once again highlighted the ongoing issue of violence against women that has seen thousands of vulnerable women and girls across India being subjected to rape and serious assault in recent years.
