Residents in China say the government is killing Covid-19 patients’ pets without consent amid draconian new measures.
China battles new coronavirus outbreaks while Beijing continues with a controversial zero tolerance strategy for Covid-19. Some reported returning home to find that their pets had been killed while there were in quarantine or undergoing treatment in hospital.
This month, a resident of Chengdu, southwest China, claimed on the Xiaohongshu social media platform that her cats were killed after being quarantined from their homes. Just two months earlier, a woman from Harbin, northeast China, said on Weibo that her three cats were killed by community workers after they tested positive for the virus.
Authorities deny the claims but social media users claim that they’re adament this is happening.
