BWG Group, the consortium that owns and operates Spar and Mace stores in Ireland, has made a bid of €23m to acquire rival retailer Londis.
BWG confirmed that, if successful, the Londis brand would be retained. Londis, which is owned by its members, has been operating in Ireland for over 60 years.
Such takeover would be subject to approval by competition authorities, and would also require the support of at least 80% of Londis ADM shareholders.
A complete takeover of the Londis chain would add 200 stores to the BWG Group’s existing 1,175 premises nationwide.
