This week has been an incredible week for glorious sunshine and it it seems the country experienced the warmest day of the year so far on Thursday.

The pleasantly mild and unexpected temperatures saw many of us out and about whilst it was on offer, and forecasters now say the 18.5C temperature recorded in Claremorris, Mayo is the warmest of 2016.

The unusual temperature remarkably made the Co Mayo spot warmer than exotic destinations such as Madrid (17C), Barcelona (17C) and Bordeaux (16C).

Met Eireann say the vast majority of the good weather did hit the west with counties such as Mayo, Galway, Roscommon, Sligo and Donegal enjoyed the highest temperatures. Meanwhile forecaster Liz Gavin said parts of the midlands such as Westmeath and Oaklands in Carlow, experienced cooler temperatures of 16.6C, whilst the east coast was a slight bit cooler with a temperature of 12C.

Here is hoping it continues.
