Staff applaud and cheer as controversial broadcaster and columnist Katie Hopkins is sacked from LBC radio

The controversial journalist and radio broadcaster Katie Hopkins has been reportedly sacked by the company who operates British radio station LBC.

It is believed the often outspoken columnist Hopkins was shown the door in response to her final solution tweet which she made in the wake of the Manchester Arena bombing earlier this week.

In statement released on Friday LBC said that they and Ms Hopkins have come to the amicable decision to part ways in the wake of recent events.

Ms Hopkins who is no stranger to controversy is also currently the subject of a police investigation in relation to the tweet which drew widespread criticism earlier this week.

The former Apprentice contestant found herself at the centre of a public backlash after she responded to This Morning presenter Philip Schofield via Twitter calling for the ‘final solution’ when it comes to stopping ISIS.

Meanwhile the news of Hopkins alleged sacking was met with cheers and applause from her former co-workers at the station on Friday.

According to The Mirror newspaper the corporation’s media editor, Amol Rajan, was the first to share the news of the delight amongst staff at the station, by writing the following tweet: “Am very reliably told there were massive cheers + applause in LBC newsroom when staff received email about Hopkins”.

Rajan’s message was liked and re-tweeted by hundreds of people, who were delighted at the 42 year-old’s departure.

Hopkins however will still continue to work for the Daily Mail newspaper although her future at the paper could soon be under review.
