Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo might never have been if his mother had been successful in her attempt to abort him while she was pregnant.
Dolores Aveiro made the decision to reveal all in her warts-and-all biography entitled “Mother Courage” which is out today in Portugal.
Talking about how her doctor refused to help her, she writes of turning to home remedies, saying she drank warm ale and “ran till she dropped”.
All attempts at ending the young Ronaldo’s life failed however and while the star knows of the attempted abortion, it hasn’t affected his relationship with his mother and the two are close. He even turned to his mother to help him raise his young son, Cristiano Junior.
Aveiro also disclosed that Ronaldo himself can even joke about the abortion attempt as she commented:
“He told me when he found out, ‘Look mum, you wanted to abort and now I’m the one who’s pulling the purse-strings in the house’”
