The South China Morning Post (SCMP) has reported that Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen has ordered has ordered the country’s military to be prepared in case of Chinese attack.

“Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen has ordered the island’s armed and security forces to step up their surveillance, remain alert for military activity in the region and strengthen combat readiness as tensions between Russia and Ukraine mount,” the SCMP revealed on February 23rd.

Chinese aircraft have repeatedly violated Taiwan’s airspace over last several months with increasingly bellicose rhetoric from the Chinese Communist Party and their media outlets about reunification of the island with mainland China leading many to fear an invasion is inevitable.

Taiwan split from the rest of China in 1949 following the Communist victory in the civil war and the Chinese Communist Party has long aspired to retake the island nation.

With Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, it is feared that it’s ally China will exploit the crisis to fulfill its long-held goal and retake Taiwan by force.
