Taoiseach and Tanaiste back UK and Ireland 2030 World Cup bid

Both the Taoiseach Micheal Martin and the Tanaiste Leo Varadkar have backed plans to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup in the UK and Ireland.

Speaking outside the Dail today, the Taoiseach said that that the Irish Government will do whatever it can to help with the bid.

Martin went on to say that the Government will assist all five football associations in their bid for the tournament.

Although he said it is very early days, the whole idea of Ireland staging major events is something Governments have been pushing for in the past.

Meanwhile the Tanaiste Leo Varadkar said the idea of hosting such an event would be something for us to work together.

Writing on Twitter the Tanaiste said: “Great to see this coming together. Something for us to work towards together. Would be a real festival of football.”
