Taoiseach is ‘all talk and no action’: Campaigner Vicky Phelan slams Government over its handling of the CervicalCheck crisis

CericalCheck campaigner Vicky Phelan has said the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar is all talk and no talk when it comes to the CericalCheck programme.

Ms Phelan who was speaking at an event in Limerick this past weekend revealed that she was disappointed with dhe Taoiseach and certain Government ministers over their handling of the controversy.

Ms Phelan who has been heavily praised for her work since blowing the lid on the scandal last year, told the onlooking form that she didn’t get the feeling that Mr Varadkar was treating the issue with significant importance.

Although Ms Phelan praised the Minister for Health Simon Harris for his efforts in improving the programme for women affected by the scandal, she did state thatd many answers haven’t been given by the government.

Ms Phelan who has called for a tribunal to be set up, told those attending the event that the proper resources must be implemented in order to cut the waiting list for smear test results.

Although the government have said smear test reviews will begin later this month, many affected by the scandal including Ms Phelan have been left angered that the current waiting list is over 20 weeks.
